Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteering at our shelter provides numerous ways to make a difference and support our mission. Whether you’re hands-on with the animals, assisting with events, or supporting daily operations, your time and effort are invaluable. Here are some ways you can contribute and enjoy the rewarding experience of volunteering with us.

  1. Animal Care
  2. Animal Transport
  3. Adoption and Outreach
  4. Shelter, Grounds, and General Maintenance
  5. Spay/Neuter Program
  6. Fundraising and Events

1) Animal Care

Volunteering in animal care is one of the most hands-on and rewarding ways to make a difference. Your efforts directly impact the well-being and happiness of the animals in our care, helping them to become more adoptable and ready for their forever homes.

  1. Fostering: Provide temporary homes for dogs, puppies, cats, and kittens in need.
  2. Dog Walking and Training: Exercise and train dogs to improve their behavior and readiness for adoption.
  3. Field Trips: What’s better than a winery on a beautiful day? A winery with a playful pup—on a beautiful day.
  4. Grooming: Bathe, brush, and comb animals to keep them clean and healthy while also fostering a sense of love and care.
  5. Animal Socializing: Spend time with animals to help them become more comfortable around people and encouraging their ability to feel loved and cared for.
  6. Vet Techs: Are you a vet tech, or studying to become one? Come volunteer with us and get some hands-on experience!

2) Animal Transport

Transporting animals is a huge part of our operations, with about half of our dogs and cats sent to high-adoption shelters each year. All volunteers receive training on handling the dogs and cats during transport and on driving the van.

3) Adoption and Outreach

Play a crucial role in connecting our animals with loving families. Your efforts will help raise awareness, facilitate adoptions, and ensure that each pet finds the perfect home.

  1. Event Volunteers: Organize and assist at adoption events. Help with setup, handling dogs, and adoption paperwork.
  2. Taking Photos of Animals for the Website: Capturing soulful pictures and precious moments for us to use on the website and social media.

Gain Experience and Exposure

Are you a photographer or just launching your own photography business? We’ve got hundreds of models eager for their moment to shine! Work with us to gain some hands-on experience, and we’d be thrilled to feature your photos on our website and social media, and highlight your business on our Partners page.

4) Shelter, Grounds, and General Maintenance

Supporting the daily operations of the shelter is vital for maintaining a safe and efficient environment. Your contributions help ensure that the shelter runs smoothly and that the animals receive the best possible care.

Keeping our shelter grounds well-maintained and beautiful creates a welcoming environment for visitors and a safe space for our animals. Your efforts in this area help enhance the overall atmosphere of our shelter.

  1. Office Duties and Cleaning: Answer phones, file documents, and handle administrative tasks. Maintain clean and sanitary conditions for the animals, including cleaning cat and dog rooms, carriers, and the transport van.
  2. Sprucing Up Our Grounds and Landscaping: Help with general maintenance and beautification of the shelter grounds and participate in landscaping projects around the shelter.
  3. Maintenance: If you’re handy — we can always use a hand!

5) Spay/Neuter Program

Contributing to our spay/neuter program not only helps control the animal population but also promotes a healthier community. Your involvement in this critical area ensures that both the pets we care for and the community benefit from reduced stray populations.

  1. Trapping and Transport Services: Trap and transport feral cats to clinics and care locations pre-and post-surgery.
  2. Transport Check-In and Pick-Up: Handle check-in procedures, process paperwork, and collect money for the spay/neuter clinic. Assist with unloading animals from the spay/neuter van, give post-surgical instructions, and process paperwork.
  3. Post-Surgical Care: Provide temporary recovery care for cats after surgery in a climate-controlled area.

6) Fundraising and Events

Engaging in fundraising and events is essential for raising awareness and securing resources for our shelter. Your participation helps us organize successful events that benefit our animals and connect them with potential adopters.

  1. Organizing and Setting Up Events: Plan, coordinate, and help set up fundraising and adoption events.

Walking Dogs and Event Assistance: Walk and care for dogs during events to showcase them for potential adopters. Assist with various tasks to ensure events run smoothly.
